US citizens who have been out of the country for a minimum of 48 hrs and have not used their respective duty-free allowance within 30 days are entitled to a $600 duty-free tax exemption. Families traveling together can pool their exemptions. Alcohol: The duty-free allowance for US citizens age 21 and over is one quart, the value of which must be included within the $600 exemption.

Canadian citizens who have been out of the country for a minimum of 7 days are entitled to a duty-free exemption of $750 CAD. They are also permitted a duty-free exemption of $200 CAD each time they are out of the country for more than 48 hrs. This $200 exemption may not be claimed during the same period as the $750 exemption, nor can your exemptions be pooled with your spouse and/or children. Alcohol: The duty-free allowance for Canadian citizens who meet the legal age of the province they re-enter is 40 ounces of wine or liquor or two dozen 12-ounce cans of beer, the value of which must be included within the yearly or quarterly exemption.

Dona Bryhiel has her studio and showroom away from the commercial zones. Between quiet Baie Lucas and Oyster Pond are the premises of this French artist with very interesting artworks of Caribbean and Southern France subjects. If not in the South of France, you find her personally in the cozy, small gallery at Avenue du Lagon, the coastal road along the east side of the island. Beside Caribbean landscape and nature, she also has fine paintings of Caribbean people, especially women. See more on her website here. A visit is also worthwhile, if you just only like to buy a few souvenirs with a unique design. You find tempting ceramic artwork, textiles, such as T-Shirts, and small gadgets for adults and kids. She also ships internationally.

Some artists are working in secluded studios, and display their work in famous NY-City galleries, or elsewhere in the world. A typical example is Norma Trimborn with her unique, expressive oil paintings of exceptional vigor. Norma Trimborn and her evenly talented sister Corinna work in the quiet neighborhood of the French Lowlands. Some of their paintings reflect the nature and the vivid colors of the Caribbean, whereas the majority of paintings is focused on people, their feelings, and the expression of their inner conflicts and emotional tensions.
